The National Park Service (NPS) is leading efforts to locate hikers who were in the highest-risk areas during the weather phenomenon.<\/p>\n\n<p>The tragic discovery occurred last Sunday night, when emergency teams recovered the body of a 46-year-old man in the vicinity of Crystal Rapids, on the Colorado River. Since then, NPS authorities and the Arizona Department of Public Safety have maintained a constant deployment to comb the affected area.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Destruction of infrastructure and access restrictions<\/h2>\n\n<p>The natural disaster, which took place on Saturday afternoon in Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch sector, caused large rocks and debris to be swept into the Colorado River channel. The force of the current destroyed practically all the footbridges over Bright Angel Creek, causing severe structural damage to the park&#8217;s facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Phantom Ranch and Bright Angel Campground remain closed to the public.<\/li><li>Access to a section of the North Kaibab trail is restricted.<\/li><li>Overnight stays have been suspended due to a lack of potable water.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Authorities have issued a strict alert regarding the possibility of new storms, warning that unstable weather conditions could trigger additional flash floods in the coming hours.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>In addition to the damage to the roads, the flood fractured the main pipeline that supplies water to the park, which has forced the imposition of immediate restrictions on the consumption of the resource.
