The procedure was performed to treat chronic bursitis that had been affecting him for the last few months, forcing the New York Mets to place him on the 60-day injured list.<\/p>\n\n<p>Polanco&#8217;s arrival in Queens, after signing a two-year, $40 million contract last winter, generated high expectations within the organization. The goal was for the Dominican to establish himself as a pillar in the New York lineup, but a series of physical issues prevented him from displaying his best level of play.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A year marked by injuries<\/h2>\n\n<p>Polanco&#8217;s health was a constant concern for the coaching staff since the beginning of the campaign. His history of physical issues during this 2026 included:<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Persistent discomfort in the left Achilles tendon since the month of April.<\/li>\n<li>A blow to the right wrist that limited his batting ability.<\/li>\n<li>Chronic bursitis in the left ankle that finally required surgery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p>In the 37 games in which he was able to see action, the Dominican recorded a .148 batting average, accumulating two home runs and six runs batted in over 135 official at-bats. His production statistics were completed with a .201 on-base percentage and a .431 OPS.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Interim manager Andy Green has confirmed that the player will have to follow a progressive rehabilitation program once spring training begins in Florida, in order to gradually regain his physical fitness.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Uncertainty towards 2027<\/h2>\n\n<p>The outlook for the start of the next campaign is cautious. Medical projections suggest that Polanco might not be in full condition for the start of spring training, which poses a challenge for both the player and the Mets&#8217; management.<\/p>\n\n<p>Despite this complex first year, the organization maintains confidence in the infielder&#8217;s ability to recover and resume his leading role on the team.
