This urban intervention project covers 1,600 square meters of public art, turning the former 13th Street, now Mar\u00eda Viuda de la Cruz, into an epicenter of culture, identity, and local history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the handover ceremony, Mayor Carolina Mej\u00eda highlighted the importance of inter-institutional collaboration to improve the quality of life for the residents of the capital. Likewise, she recognized the work of councilman Jos\u00e9 Eddy Ota\u00f1o for his constant efforts on behalf of this community and surrounding sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A space that honors Dominican identity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Robert Polanco, a representative of Propeep, emphasized that the recovery of public spaces is a shared responsibility. According to the official, the muralism captured in the Paseo de los Colores not only beautifies the environment but also strengthens the sense of belonging by rescuing the essence of a neighborhood founded after the passage of Hurricane San Zen\u00f3n in 1931.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>When art, culture, and community participation are integrated into these interventions, the citizens&#8217; sense of belonging is also strengthened.<\/p>\n<cite>Robert Polanco, Propeep<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the figures and elements represented in the murals, the following stand out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Icons of popular culture: The Dominican corner store (colmado), the carnival, and characters like Calif\u00e9 and La Muerte en Yipe.<\/li>\n<li>Traditional games: Tr\u00facamelo, vitilla, plaquita, and jump rope.<\/li>\n<li>National legends: Jose\u00edto Mateo, Jos\u00e9 Alberto El Canario, the Cepeda brothers, Freddy Beras Goico, Hatuey De Camps, D\u00e1maso Marte, and Manolo Tav\u00e1rez Justo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Commitment to the capital&#8217;s legacy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This project joins a series of successful recoveries led by the National District City Hall, which include the transformation of makeshift landfills into recreational spaces, such as Caonabo Beato Park and the Villa Mar\u00eda linear park. The goal is for these environments to allow new generations to connect with their social heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The inauguration was attended by prominent figures, including relatives of historical figures such as Hatuey De Camps, Manolo Tav\u00e1rez Justo, and Freddy Beras Goico.
