In an act of extreme violence, members of a criminal gang took dozens of civilians hostage, including children, women, and young people, after carrying out a massacre that has claimed the lives of at least 47 people.

Direct threats against the captives

The leader of the criminal faction, identified as Didi or Izo 2, has issued a blunt warning through audiovisual material disseminated on digital platforms. In the video, the ringleader threatens to execute more than 60 people who remain under his control if security forces attempt to carry out a tactical intervention in the area. The criminal holds the State directly responsible for any fatal outcome that may occur with the hostages.

The criminal leader has issued clear instructions to his subordinates to respond with violence against the captives in the event that the authorities decide to execute a rescue operation or attack against his organization.

Alofoke Deportes

Impact of the offensive in Kenscoff

The attack has not only left a trail of kidnappings, but also significant material destruction. According to local reports, the aggressors burned at least 25 homes and perpetrated acts of extreme cruelty. One of the most tragic incidents was recorded at a local church, where, according to data from international organizations, 22 people were executed while trying to take shelter.

Context of the humanitarian crisis

This episode underscores the growing capacity of gangs to expand their control beyond the usual limits of Port-au-Prince, the capital where these organizations dominate approximately 70 percent of the territory. The instability has generated devastating consequences for the civilian population:

Forced displacement of nearly 1.5 million citizens nationwide.

More than 3,000 deaths and 1,400 injuries recorded between January and June 2026.

Growing uncertainty ahead of the general elections scheduled for December 2026.

Given this scenario, the Haitian National Police have deployed special units in Kenscoff with the aim of initiating investigations and containing the threat. However, the immediate priority of the authorities remains the rescue of the kidnapped individuals, a complex task that seeks to avoid fatal reprisals by the armed groups that maintain control in the mountainous area.

Security crisis in Haiti: Armed gang takes hostages and perpetrates massacre in Kenscoff The security situation in Haiti has reached critical levels following a recent incursion by armed groups in Kenscoff, a mountainous area adjacent to Port-au-Prince.
