President Sheinbaum Explains the Detention of Julio C\u00e9sar Ch\u00e1vez Jr.<\/h2>\n\n\nThe President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported this Friday on the arrest of boxer Julio C\u00e9sar Ch\u00e1vez Jr., explaining that the 2023 arrest warrant had not been previously executed due to the athlete’s majority residence in the United States.\n\nThese statements were made one day after U.S. authorities announced the apprehension of Ch\u00e1vez Jr. in California. The arrest was carried out for overstaying his visa and for making false statements on his application for a permanent resident card.\n\nAccording to U.S. authorities, the boxer is being processed for expedited deportation.\n\n\n

The hope is that he will be deported and serve his sentence in Mexico,<\/p>Claudia Sheinbaum<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nSheinbaum mentioned this during her daily press conference, referring to the charges that Ch\u00e1vez Jr. faces for arms and drug trafficking.\n\nChavez Jr.’s lawyer, Michael Goldstein, indicated that the 39-year-old boxer was arrested on Wednesday by a large number of federal agents while riding a scooter in Studio City, Los Angeles.\n\nThe arrest occurs a few days after the former middleweight champion lost a fight against influencer and boxer Jake Paul in Anaheim, California.\n\nCh\u00e1vez Jr. divided his time between both countries. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers detained the boxer for overstaying a tourist visa with which he entered the United States in August 2023, which expired in February 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.\n\nThe agency also indicated that Ch\u00e1vez submitted multiple fraudulent statements when applying for permanent residency on April 2, 2024, based on his marriage to Frida Mu\u00f1oz, a U.S. citizen.
