Among those in attendance were the Portugal coach, Roberto Mart\u00ednez, the president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Pedro Proen\u00e7a, and several former teammates such as Bernardo Silva, Jo\u00e3o Moutinho, R\u00faben Dias, Jo\u00e3o F\u00e9lix and Rui Patr\u00edcio.\n\nThe Liverpool team and coaching staff paid tribute to the brothers, wearing commemorative shirts. Virgil van Dijk wore the shirt with Diogo Jota&#8217;s number 20, while Jordan Henderson wore Andr\u00e9 Silva&#8217;s number 30.\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.example.com\/imagen-funeral.jpg\" alt=\"Imagen del funeral\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\n\nAccompanying the family were Diogo Jota&#8217;s teammates and former teammates, including Tiago Alc\u00e2ntara, Fabinho, Ricardo Carvalho, and Nelson Semedo. Also in attendance were Diogo Jota&#8217;s former agent, Jorge Mendes, and the president of Porto, Andr\u00e9 Villas-Boas.\n\nFollowing the guests&#8217; entrance, the coffins were moved to the church, escorted by players, friends, and visibly affected family members. The Bishop of Porto, Manuel Linda, officiated the exequies and addressed a message to Diogo Jota&#8217;s three youngest children.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;Dear Dinis, Mafalda and Duarte, children who are not here, at this moment you are suffering immensely or perhaps not, because you do not understand,&#8221; said the bishop.<\/p><cite>Bishop of Porto, Manuel Linda<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nUpon completion of the ceremony, the brothers were buried in the church cemetery. Upon leaving the premises, soccer players, coaches, relatives, and friends showed their sorrow.\n\nDiogo Jota, 28, and his brother Andr\u00e9, 25, died on Thursday in a traffic accident in Spain.\n\nThe forward, trained in the Portuguese clubs of Gondomar and Pa\u00e7os de Ferreira, was a player for Atl\u00e9tico de Madrid in 2016 and later played on loan at FC Porto until 2018, when he moved to the English league. Since 2020 he was a Liverpool player.\n\nThe player had married his partner of 13 years, Rute Cardoso, on June 22nd, with whom he had three minor children, one of them an eight-month-old girl.\n\nHis brother Andr\u00e9 Felipe Silva was also a footballer and played for Penafiel, a team in the Portuguese second division.\n\nThe coach Roberto Mart\u00ednez stated that Andr\u00e9 Silva and Diogo Jota will always be in everyone&#8217;s hearts.\n\n&#8220;I would like to thank everyone for being here, these have been very, very, very, very sad days, but today was an opportunity to show that Andr\u00e9 Silva and Diogo Jota are with us, they are going to be with us and we are all a family,&#8221; declared Mart\u00ednez, who flew to Portugal from the USA.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Portuguese Football and Liverpool Bid Farewell to Diogo Jota and his Brother Andr\u00e9 Gondomar, Portugal \u2013 The Portuguese football community and Liverpool came together this Saturday to say a final farewell to Diogo Jota and his brother Andr\u00e9 in an emotional funeral held in Gondomar, the city where they both grew up.
