The blaze, which has already consumed more than 15,000 acres of land, has nearly 90,000 people under evacuation orders or alerts, while emergency crews fight tirelessly to contain the flames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fire started last Saturday in Washoe County, in the vicinity of the city of Reno. According to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the fire&#8217;s behavior has been classified as extreme, driven by adverse weather conditions and rapid spread that, so far, has not allowed for a containment percentage to be established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impact on the population and state of emergency<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The magnitude of the disaster has forced the authorities to take drastic measures to safeguard the lives of the citizens:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mass evacuations:<\/strong> Approximately 42,000 people have been forced to leave their homes, while another 45,000 remain on preventive alert.<\/li>\n<li><strong>State of emergency:<\/strong> Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency from the start of the incident, urging the population to strictly follow safety instructions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Affected infrastructure:<\/strong> The fire has caused significant damage to the power grid, leaving nearly 10,000 customers without power in Washoe County.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>This is an active and constantly evolving situation. Strong winds, low humidity, and an abundance of dry vegetation have hindered the creation of containment lines. Unfortunately, the emergency has left six people injured, including three civilians and three members of the response teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While preliminary investigations point to human activity as the possible trigger for the fire, authorities are currently focused on containing the spread of the flames to protect the most vulnerable communities.
