The news was announced this Friday, a day after his start in Toronto was cut short after only three innings.\n\nSchmidt, a 29-year-old right-handed pitcher, underwent an MRI on the same Friday.\n\nThe Yankees also called up right-handed pitchers Scott Effross and Jayvien Sandridge from Triple-A Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre.\n\nClayton Beeter, who replaced Schmidt on Thursday night and suffered the loss in the 8-5 defeat, was sent to the RailRiders.\n\nSchmidt allowed three runs, four hits, including a two-run homer by George Springer, and two walks. The pitcher revealed that he has been dealing with arm discomfort since his June 4 outing against Cleveland.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>At the beginning of the game it felt good. As the game went on, it got a little tight. I felt like all night I was protecting it a little bit on the breaking pitches, really not throwing them hard or trying to put a lot of power on them.<\/p><cite>Clarke Schmidt<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nSchmidt, who underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2017, has a 4-4 record with a 3.32 ERA in 14 starts. He abandoned a start on June 21 against Baltimore after throwing a career-high 103 pitches in seven no-hit innings, part of a 28 1\/3-inning scoreless streak.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Every time you get an MRI on your forearm, or any part of your body, you don&#8217;t feel happy about it. I pray that everything is okay and mild.
