The incident occurred while Contreras was leading off the top of the fourth inning in Tuesday night&#8217;s 1-0 loss to the Pirates.\n\nContreras remained in the game to run the bases, but was put out at home by the Pirates&#8217; left fielder, Tommy Pham, at the end of the inning, while trying to score from second base after a single by Pedro Pages.\n\nAfter the game, Contreras underwent X-rays on his hand, which were negative. Both he and the Cardinals manager, Oliver Marmol, indicated that it is unlikely that the three-time All-Star will participate in the last game of the series on Wednesday.\n\nIn the bottom of the fourth inning, Contreras was replaced by Alec Burleson, who moved from left field. Garrett Hampson took his place in left field.\n\nIn the current season, Contreras has a batting average of .248 in 82 games, with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs.\n\nThe 33-year-old receiver suffered a fracture in the middle finger of his left hand, which ended his season on August 24th, also due to being hit by a ball.\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>When I get hit on the arm or hand, I worry a little.
