The Queens of the Caribbean are preparing for a new international challenge. This Friday, the Dominican Republic women’s national volleyball team begins its participation in the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship with the firm goal of retaining the title obtained in the last three editions of the tournament.<\/p>\n\n
The Dominican team’s debut will be against Costa Rica, in a match scheduled for 8:30 at night at the Ricardo Gioriber Arias Volleyball Palace, located at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. The tricolor team arrives at this match after having recently won its seventh consecutive title at the Central American and Caribbean Games, consolidating its dominance in the region.<\/p>\n\n
Beyond continental glory, the tournament holds fundamental strategic importance. This championship is a key stop on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The top four teams in the final standings, excluding the United States as the host country for the Olympic event, will earn their ticket to the NORCECA Continental Qualifier, which will be held at the end of August at the same venue.<\/p>\n\n
The Dominican national team seeks to expand its golden history, having obtained four continental titles in the years 2009, 2019, 2021, and 2023, keeping alive the dream of reaching its fifth Olympic qualification.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n
Competition details<\/h2>\n\n
The competition features the participation of eight nations: the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, and the host, the Dominican Republic. In addition to the fight for the podium, the tournament will award three direct spots for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.<\/p>\n\n
The teams have been distributed as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n
- Group A:<\/strong> United States, Canada, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago.<\/li>
- Group B:<\/strong> Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Costa Rica.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n
Opening day schedule<\/h2>\n\n
The action will begin this August 21st with a day full of high-level volleyball:<\/p>\n\n\n
- 1:00 p.m. \u2014 United States vs. Trinidad and Tobago<\/li>
- 3:30 p.m. \u2014 Canada vs. Mexico<\/li>
- 6:00 p.m. \u2014 Puerto Rico vs. Cuba<\/li>
- 8:30 p.m. \u2014 Dominican Republic vs. Costa Rica<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n
The preliminary round will extend until August 23, subsequently giving way to the quarterfinals on the 24th, the semifinals on the 25th, and the grand final on August 26, where the medals and the teams’ fate for upcoming international commitments will be decided.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
