This decision marks a significant change in the internal landscape of the opposition organization ahead of the consultation scheduled for next October 18th.

Through an official communication sent on August 13 to Cristina Lizardo, coordinator of the Organizing Commission for the Consultation on Presidential Aspirants (CONAP-2026), Ventura Camejo notified his definitive withdrawal from the internal electoral race for the 2028 elections. The letter was also addressed to the president of the PLD, Danilo Medina, and the secretary general, Johnny Pujols.

I am formally withdrawing my registration as an aspirant to represent the Party as a candidate in the 2028 elections. I did not achieve the representative support that would allow me to continue with dignity in this democratic consultation.
Ramón Ventura Camejo

A trajectory marked by more than five decades of service

In his resignation letter, the veteran leader took the opportunity to reflect on his long career within the purple party, where he has been a member for more than 50 years. Ventura Camejo has a relevant political history, which includes:

His role as an active member of the PLD Central Committee.

A previous track record as a member of the organization’s Political Committee.

Twelve years of service in the National Congress, representing the Santiago province in both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.

His tenure as Minister of Public Administration, a period highlighted by the implementation of structural reforms in the public service.

The future of the PLD’s internal process

Ventura Camejo’s departure reshuffles the pieces within the PLD as the organization continues its efforts of renewal and reorganization. Although the former official has decided to step aside from his presidential aspirations, the leader reaffirmed his commitment to the party structure, maintaining his active membership.

The party maintains its firm schedule for the consultation on October 18, 2026, a process that seeks to define the organization’s leadership before the Dominican electorate with a view to the 2028 general elections. Meanwhile, the other candidates continue with their campaign agendas in search of support from the party’s grassroots.

Ramón Ventura Camejo withdraws his presidential pre-candidacy in the PLD Political leader and former Minister of Public Administration, Ramón Ventura Camejo, has formalized his resignation from the presidential pre-candidacy of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).
