The political and communicational sphere of the Dominican Republic is in mourning following the passing of Andr\u00e9s Matos, popularly known as \u201cLicho\u201d. The political leader and former deputy, who had been facing health complications that had limited his public life in recent years, left a legacy marked by his commitment to public service and his distinguished career in the media.<\/p>\n\n
Matos’ remains will be displayed this Wednesday starting at 2:00 p.m. at the Blandino Funeral Home, located on Abraham Lincoln Avenue in the National District. Subsequently, his body will be transferred to the National Congress, where he will receive the honors corresponding to his position as a former legislator.<\/p>\n\n
\u201cLicho\u201d Matos was a key figure in Dominican political communication. Throughout much of his career, he was an iconic voice of the program \u201cTribuna Democr\u00e1tica\u201d, a space from which he promoted his ideals and accompanied crucial moments in the country’s political evolution. His style led him to share the stage with figures of the stature of Tony Raful and the late Pr\u00edamo Medina, establishing himself as part of a generation of communicators who understood the media as a fundamental platform for democratic debate.<\/p>\n\n\n
Matos’ career was marked by his political loyalty and his management capacity, standing out as a close collaborator of former President Hip\u00f3lito Mej\u00eda and, subsequently, as one of the founders and leaders integrated into the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).<\/p>\n\n\n
In addition to his communication work, Matos held important roles in public administration. He represented constituency number three of the National District as a deputy and, more recently, contributed his experience to the Communications department of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) under the management of Deligne Ascenci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n
His passing represents a significant loss for those who shared decades of political activism with him.
