The political and communicational sphere of the Dominican Republic is in mourning following the passing of Andr\u00e9s Matos, popularly known as “Licho.” The prominent leader and former legislator left an indelible mark on the national stage, establishing himself as a key figure in the history of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) and, subsequently, as a fundamental pillar in the founding of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A trajectory marked by the word<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Licho Matos’ influence expanded primarily through his mastery of communication. He was an iconic voice on the renowned program “Tribuna Democr\u00e1tica,” from where he not only defended his party’s ideals but also served as a direct witness to the most significant moments in the political career of the historic leader Jos\u00e9 Francisco Pe\u00f1a G\u00f3mez. His style, characterized by an affable personality combined with firm eloquence, allowed him to forge deep alliances and friendships with figures of the stature of Tony Raful and the late Pr\u00edamo Medina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legislative and party commitment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In his role as a public servant, Matos held a seat in the Chamber of Deputies, representing the third constituency of the National District with determination. His party loyalty was tested at various stages; however, his commitment to the political cause always prevailed. Over the years, his relationship with former President Hip\u00f3lito Mej\u00eda consolidated, becoming a key figure as a spokesperson and press director for his political projects, in addition to being a facilitator of unity within his sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andr\u00e9s Matos was a benchmark of consistency and dedication, using communication as his main weapon for the defense of his political convictions and the strengthening of Dominican democracy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

With the arrival of the PRM to power under the leadership of Luis Abinader, Matos continued to contribute his experience to the State, serving as Director of Communications for the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC). This stage marked his last major foray into public management, from where he contributed to the government’s institutional strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his final years, the leader faced various health problems that gradually limited his presence in public life. His passing occurred at a medical center in the National District, following complications derived from the ailments he had been suffering from for some time.
