D\u00edaz Chess Club, along with Ajedrez Picante, kicked off the 2025 Children&#8217;s and Youth Chess Classic Tournament this Saturday. The event is dedicated to engineer N\u00e9stor Matos, current director of the Dominican Institute for Quality (INDOCAL), in recognition of his significant career as a chess player and his contributions to Dominican chess.\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tribute to N\u00e9stor Matos<\/h2>\n\n\nDuring the opening ceremony, Matos expressed his gratitude for the recognition and reiterated his support for &#8220;science sport.&#8221; He highlighted that chess is an &#8220;excellent gym for the mind,&#8221; fostering creativity, analysis, and offering benefits for the mental and emotional health of young people.\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Engineer Matos is highly respected in the chess community. He has been a constant supporter of chess, both in the game and outside of it. This dedication is a deserved recognition of his dedication to this sport.<\/p><cite>Benjam\u00edn Henr\u00edquez, CEO of Ajedrez Picante<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\nPresley Nova also valued the active participation of children and highlighted the support of parents.\n\nThe championship is taking place from June 20th to 29th at the Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a National Library (BNPHU).\n\nThe tournament serves as a qualifying event for the 2025 Central American and Caribbean School Championship.\n\nPlayers from various provinces participate in six categories: U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, and U17.
