I don’t like too much information. Ultimately, it was my decision, so I wanted to have a clear mind, not too much information. I’ve known him since I was 15, playing at City with him. I have a good relationship with him, so it was nice to see a familiar face.\n\nDelap added that the relationship with the coach and the club’s project were key factors in his choice.\n\n

There are many influencing factors. I have a good relationship with the coach. I know how he plays. I have played in this system before. I know many players here and the club’s project, how they see the future. That’s what excited me.<\/p>Liam Delap<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\nPalmer, who joined Chelsea from City in the summer of 2023, has become one of the most prominent figures in the Premier League.\n\nDelap hopes to emulate that \u00e9xito.\n\n

Of course, that’s the goal. I think we both had similar positions and he’s done incredibly well, so I hope I can do it too. He’s always been that good and everyone at City will tell you. The speed at which he’s achieved it is incredible. But I think, ultimately, it was always going to happen.<\/p>Liam Delap<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\nDelap also confirmed that the transfer altered his summer plans, as he originally aimed to participate in the European Under-21 Championship with England.\n\n

I had my sights set on the Eurocup all season and I was really looking forward to that. But I signed here and they wanted me to be here. I also want to be here. I need to get to know everyone, that’s why I’m here.<\/p>Liam Delap<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\nThe Chelsea coach, Enzo Maresca, has suggested that Delap could be the future number 9 for England. When asked if he had spoken with the senior coach, Thomas Tuchel, Delap replied:\n\n
