Chicago, \u2013 The Chicago Cubs announced this Sunday the inclusion of Dominican pitcher Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list. The reason behind this decision is a blister on the middle finger of his right hand, which forced Cabrera to leave his last start.<\/p>\n
The measure was taken before the game against the Astros, after a failed attempt by Cabrera to try himself on the mound at Wrigley Field. The injury is retroactive to Thursday, which means the right-hander will not be able to return to the team before June 5.<\/p>\n
To fill Cabrera’s absence, the Cubs called up left-handed pitcher Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa, who is emerging as a key option to reinforce a rotation affected by multiple injuries.<\/p>\n
Cabrera had to leave his Wednesday start against Milwaukee due to discomfort and a decrease in his pitch velocity. Subsequently, it was confirmed that the blister was already affecting him before that game.<\/p>\n
The 28-year-old Dominican has had a season with outstanding numbers, with an ERA of 4.00, in addition to accumulating 47 strikeouts and 20 walks in 54 innings pitched, distributed in 10 starts.<\/p>\n
