The event, which took place on the coast of Juan Dolio, brought together prominent national and international players.

The couple formed by Sonia Villanueva de Brouwer and María Barrera were crowned champions in the open category, after an intense day of competition. Second place went to Ariel García Múgica and José Roques, while Dixie Rehibein and Esther Ricart obtained third place. In the beginners’ division, the duo of Aylin Hung de Suárez and Brigitte Torres took the victory.

The tournament was played under the pairs format, a standard bridge modality that demands precision and strategy. The teams faced each other in successive hands against different opponents, and the final classification was based on the official regulations of the World Bridge Federation, to which the CBSD is affiliated.

As president of the CBSD, I am deeply grateful for the extraordinary welcome from the Hemingway Club to celebrate the Wilhelm Brouwer Cup. On this 47th anniversary, we experienced a splendid day of camaraderie, honoring the memory of pillars like my husband, Wilhelm Brouwer. Thank you all for keeping this discipline alive, a gymnasium for the mind that strengthens the bonds of our community.

The Hemingway Clubhouse was the setting for this event, which served to recognize the trajectory of the founding members of the club. The name of the cup is a tribute to Wilhelm Brouwer Spijkers, businessman, diplomat and first president of the CBSD. During the ceremony, posthumous tribute was paid to Mark Riley and Jacques Sagués, and the work of Pedro Pablo Cabral was highlighted for his contribution to the development of bridge in the Dominican Republic.

The logistical organization of the event was handled by the Club Hemingway team, under the supervision of its general manager, Ángel Pérez. The event was supported by José Antonio Rodríguez Copello, from Grupo López de Haro, and Club Hemingway, which ensured a high-quality experience.

The Santo Domingo Bridge Club, founded on April 5, 1979, is a non-profit entity that promotes bridge as a mental sport and recreational activity. Currently, it has more than 35 Dominican and foreign players residing in different cities of the country. The club is affiliated with the World Bridge Federation and the Central American and Caribbean Bridge Federation.

Resounding Success at the Wilhelm Brouwer Hemingway Bridge Cup Santo Domingo – The Santo Domingo Bridge Club (CBSD) successfully celebrated the first edition of the Wilhelm Brouwer Hemingway Bridge Cup, within the framework of its 47th anniversary.
