After finishing in second place in 2025, Rose finished two strokes behind the winner this year, ending with a total of 10 under par after a final round of 70 strokes, including three bogeys in the second half of the course.

At 45 years old, Rose became the oldest participant in the Masters to record two consecutive top-five finishes. However, this is not much consolation after the narrow defeat of the previous year.

Rose got off to a great start, beginning with four under par in the first nine holes and taking a two-stroke lead as he reached the 10th hole. But he lost the lead with bogeys on holes 11 and 12. On the 13th hole, his iron shot 30 feet from the hole gave him the opportunity to make eagle, but he needed three putts for par. He managed a birdie on the 15th hole and a bogey on the 17th, unable to get close to the winner.

It was an opportunity that got away, obviously. I wasn’t free by any means and I wasn’t close to being done with the job, but I was in a good position. The mindset was to run to the finish line, not just try to finish. I was playing very well, but the momentum shifted for me around Amen Corner.
Justin Rose

Rose has proven to be a consistent competitor at the Masters. His three previous second-place finishes are tied for second with Tom Weiskopf, and his nine rounds leading or sharing the lead in the first three rounds are the third-most overall.

Rose felt the support of the Augusta National crowd throughout the week, including a strong ovation as he walked down the 18th fairway.

They supported me throughout the week. I felt their encouragement and support. In the end, it becomes a bit flat. It’s more of a sympathy than anything else.
Justin Rose

This was the sixteenth time Rose has finished in the top 25 in 21 Masters appearances. Last year, he made 10 birdies in his final round of 66 strokes before losing in a playoff.

Rose declared that this year was more frustrating.

With a sudden defeat, you know you reached the finish line. You did everything necessary to win. Then, sometimes, it comes down to a coin toss. While today I felt that, yes, there was an opportunity to do better, so obviously that’s frustrating for sure.
Justin Rose

Rose will turn 46 when he returns next year, the same age Jack Nicklaus was when he became the oldest champion in Masters history in 1986. Rose claims he still believes he can compete, citing the longevity of other players like Bernard Langer or Fred Couples, who have been competitive well into their careers at Augusta National.

And his competitors also believe in him.

I feel like if anyone deserves a green jacket… it would probably be Rosey. An incredible player and I imagine one day he will wear a green jacket.
Tyrrell Hatton

Justin Rose Suffers Another Defeat at the Masters Augusta, Georgia – The Masters at Augusta once again leaves a bitter taste for Justin Rose.
