Former Miami defensive end and 2026 NFL draft prospect Rueben Bain Jr. was involved in a car accident in 2024, in which a passenger later died due to injuries sustained in the crash.<\/p>\n
Bain was cited for negligent driving for the accident that occurred around 4 a.m. local time on March 17, 2024, on Interstate 95 northbound in Miami.<\/p>\n
The accident report alleges that Bain was driving a 2021 Land Rover SUV carrying three other passengers: Hurricanes football players Wesley Bissainthe and Nyjalik Kelly, along with a 22-year-old woman from Georgia, Destiny Betts. Bain’s vehicle rear-ended another car, veered into a concrete barrier, and then bounced off another barrier before stopping on the shoulder of the highway.<\/p>\n
Betts was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center in Miami. According to reports, Betts was in a coma for almost three months before passing away from her injuries on June 13, 2024.<\/p>\n
Bain was cited at the time of the incident, but the charges were dropped before Betts’ death. No sobriety tests were performed at the scene, according to the accident report.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the Betts family called the accident a “tragic accident” and said that “we wish Mr. Bain the best as he continues his life and career.”<\/p>\n
Bain was entering his second season at the time of the accident.<\/p>\n
Currently, Bain is ranked number 15 in the latest NFL draft prospect list this month. In his junior season in 2025, Bain had a standout season, helping Miami reach the college football playoff championship, recording 9.5 sacks, 15.5 tackles for loss, and five quarterback pressures, leading the country in quarterback pressures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
