James Pearce Jr., Falcons Player, Faces Assault and Other Charges<\/h2>\n\nAtlanta Falcons defensive end James Pearce Jr. is facing four charges in Miami-Dade, Florida, related to a February 7 incident involving WNBA player Rickea Jackson, according to court documents.\n\nPearce, 22, has been charged with three felonies: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing and evading police, and resisting an officer with violence. A fourth charge, initially for aggravated stalking, was reduced to a misdemeanor.\n\nA charge of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer was dropped.\n\nAccording to reports, Pearce pursued Jackson’s car, his ex-girlfriend, and repeatedly crashed his vehicle into hers while trying to reach the Doral, Florida police station.\n\nAfter being confronted by a police officer, Pearce allegedly fled in his vehicle, initiating a chase before crashing at an intersection. He then fled on foot before being subdued by officers and resisting arrest.\n\nPearce was arrested and spent a night in a county correctional facility before posting a $20,500 bail and being released on February 8th.\n\nJackson, who plays for the Los Angeles Sparks, filed a request for a protection order against Pearce in Miami-Dade County on February 9. In her petition, Jackson wrote that she feared for her life and that if the court did not intervene, “James will kill me”.\n\nShe wrote that Pearce “verbally and physically abused me on more than one occasion” and threatened to kill her, hurt her, and injure her, and to put a bag over her head, according to the court filing.\n\nThe court granted her initial request for protection, and a permanent restraining order hearing is scheduled for April 21. Pearce is prohibited from having contact with Jackson or coming within 500 feet of her home or workplace, or within 100 feet of her vehicle.\n\n\n

He maintains his innocence and urges the public to understand that, while the accusations have the power to shape a narrative, that is hardly the whole story.<\/p>Pearce’s legal team<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nPearce’s legal team issued a statement in which they claim that Pearce “maintains his innocence”.\n\nAn NFL spokesperson stated that the situation continues to be monitored, which remains under review of the personal conduct policy.\n\nThe Falcons have not issued comments.\n\nPolice in Florida responded to at least seven other 911 calls related to Pearce and a former girlfriend, whose name was redacted from police reports from November until the day of Pearce’s arrest.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
