Tretter, former chief strategy officer for the union and former offensive lineman for the Cleveland Browns, takes on this important role.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>&#8220;I understand the responsibility that comes with this position and how important it is to stand shoulder to shoulder with the players&#8217; leadership,&#8221; Tretter said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n<cite>JC Tretter<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe NFLPA has been searching for a permanent leader since July, following the resignation of Lloyd Howell Jr. The previous executive director resigned after it was revealed that he had charged visits to strip clubs to the union.\n\nTretter beat out an initial list of 300 candidates, including interim CEO David White and American Conference commissioner Tim Pernetti.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>&#8220;We conducted an exhaustive and deliberate search to identify the right long-term leader to drive sustained and meaningful progress for our members,&#8221; the players&#8217; representative board communicated.<\/p>\n\n<cite>Players&#8217; Representative Board<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the NFLPA expires in 2030. Tretter will have to address negotiations with the league regarding the addition of an 18th game and an international game for each team, goals on which NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the owners have spoken out.\n\nTretter was the players&#8217; union president from 2020 to 2024 and its chief strategy officer from October 2024 to July 2025.\n\nThe selection process for Tretter was carried out confidentially, similar to the one conducted in 2023 to choose Howell.\n\nGoodell congratulated Tretter and highlighted the &#8220;unique perspective&#8221; he brings as a former player. &#8220;We look forward to building on that relationship to advance our shared priorities, including our commitment to promoting player health and safety and ensuring the global growth of our game,&#8221; Goodell said.\n\nTretter&#8217;s supporters among the players have highlighted his player-focused mentality in his previous roles. Tretter has also made some costly mistakes. Last year, an arbitrator determined that his 2023 comments about running backs&#8217; injuries violated the collective bargaining agreement.\n\nIn addition to arbitration disputes, the NFLPA has also been involved in a dispute with the trading card company Panini over licensing rights.\n\nJalen Reeves-Maybin, who was elected player president in 2024, was re-elected on Monday night.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JC Tretter Elected NFLPA Executive Director The NFLPA player representatives have selected JC Tretter as their next executive director.
