Duchene will have a $4.5 million cap hit through the 2028-29 season.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted to have Matt back in our organization,\u201d Nill stated. \u201cAs our team&#8217;s top scorer last season, he helped strengthen our forward group, in addition to providing invaluable leadership off the ice and in the community. Matt&#8217;s adaptation to our team has been seamless from the start, and we look forward to continuing to pursue our shared goal of bringing a championship to Dallas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nDuchene proved to be a consistent player, averaging a point per game, with a total of 82 points in 82 games, during his second season with the Stars. In the playoffs, where the Stars reached the Western Conference final before falling to the Edmonton Oilers, Duchene recorded a goal and five assists in 16 games.\n\nAt 34 years old, Duchene is preparing for his 17th season in the NHL.
