Alonso celebrates Kubica’s victory at Le Mans: “A great day for motorsport”<\/h2>\n\n\nFernando Alonso expressed his joy after Robert Kubica’s victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, calling the day “a good day for motorsport.” Kubica, whose promising Formula 1 career was cut short by a rally accident in 2011, was part of the winning Ferrari team in the prestigious endurance race.\n\nKubica’s victory is a significant milestone, especially considering the fate of his career. Before the accident, Kubica had signed a contract to join the Ferrari Formula 1 team, which would have made him Alonso’s teammate at that time.\n\n\n

“I am very happy for him,” said Alonso, who won the famous endurance race in 2018 and 2019 with Toyota. “We talked several times about how special that race is and he deserves it, to experience that… he is a legend of our sport, and now he is even more so after winning Le Mans in his career.”<\/p>Fernando Alonso<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nAlonso highlighted Kubica’s tenacity, recalling the pain he suffered after the accident. “You know part of the pain he went through with the accident and things like that, I think today is a very happy day for motorsport,” he added.\n\n\n

In the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix, Kubica survived a spectacular accident, suffering a concussion and a sprained ankle. A year later, he achieved his first F1 victory in Montreal, an achievement he couldn’t repeat.\n\nBefore the race in Canada, Alonso retweeted a post about him and the Polish driver, highlighting that they were the only drivers to win a F1 and Le Mans race this century.\n\nNico Hulkenberg from Sauber is the only other 24 Hours of Le Mans winner on the F1 grid.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
