Pierre Crinon, French ice hockey player, has been suspended by the French Ice Hockey Federation following an altercation at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n
The suspension prevents Crinon from participating in the qualifying match against Germany scheduled for Tuesday. The federation has stated that the defender’s actions after the fight do not align with its values.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred during Sunday’s match, in which Canada defeated France with a score of 10-2. Crinon and Tom Wilson of Canada got into a fight with seven minutes left in the match.<\/p>\n
Unlike NHL rules, where fighting results in a major 5-minute penalty, under International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) rules, fighting leads to expulsion from the game.<\/p>\n
The IIHF did not impose any additional sanctions on any of the players beyond the initial expulsion.<\/p>\n
The altercation began when Wilson reacted to an action by Crinon, who had previously hit Nathan MacKinnon’s jaw with his left forearm, MacKinnon being Wilson’s teammate, which resulted in a penalty.<\/p>\n
