The Minnesota Twins have placed third baseman Royce Lewis on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made on Saturday, one day after Lewis was injured running to first base in Friday night’s loss to the Astros. Lewis underwent an MRI on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Center fielder Byron Buxton also left Saturday’s game against the Astros in the seventh inning due to a hit on his left elbow.<\/p>\n
Lewis’s injury occurs after he missed the first 35 games of the season due to a moderate strain in the same hamstring, suffered during spring training.<\/p>\n
Lewis, the first overall pick of the 2017 draft, has had a career marked by injuries. Last season, he was only able to participate in 82 games due to a severe quadriceps strain and a groin injury. These injuries added to the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee in 2021 and 2022.<\/p>\n
Lewis, who hit a home run on Friday night, has a batting average of .202 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 30 games this season.<\/p>\n
Houston pitcher Hunter Brown hit Buxton on the left elbow at the start of the sixth inning. Buxton was checked by a trainer, but remained in the game before being replaced in center field by Harrison Bader in the bottom of the seventh inning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
