Formula 1 steward Derek Warwick has been suspended from his duties for this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix due to “recent unauthorized media comments”.<\/p>\n
The FIA announced the change in its rotating panel on Friday night, with Enrique Bernoldi replacing him remotely from the regulatory body’s base of operations in Geneva.<\/p>\n
In the same statement, it was indicated that Warwick “acknowledged that his comments were imprudent”.<\/p>\n
Although nothing was specifically mentioned, it is understood that the comments were made on a gambling website, addressing various topics.<\/p>\n
Among other matters, Warwick commented on Max Verstappen’s penalty (awarded by a different group of stewards) at the Spanish Grand Prix, which put the current champion on the verge of a race suspension.<\/p>\n
Warwick also suggested that Lewis Hamilton might be considering stepping away from Ferrari after a difficult start with the Italian team.<\/p>\n
Warwick will resume his duties for the Austrian Grand Prix in two weeks.<\/p>\n
