However, the way the defeat unfolded was not well received by Morocco and their coach, Walid Regragui.\n\nSenegal coach Pape Thiaw led his team off the field while Moroccan fans celebrated and whistled, amid tumultuous scenes on the field. Players from both teams argued heatedly about the VAR decision that awarded a late penalty to the hosts.\n\nSenegal&#8217;s players returned to the field after a 14-minute break, following Sadio Man\u00e9&#8217;s intervention in the locker room, who urged them to return to the match.\n\n\u00c9douard Mendy saved the penalty taken by Brahim D\u00edaz, while some Senegal fans tried to invade the field. The tension was also felt in the press box, where altercations between journalists were recorded.\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I think it took a long time before [Brahim] could take the penalty, and this threw him off.<\/p><cite>Walid Regragui<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\nAfter the match, Morocco&#8217;s coach, Regragui, criticized Thiaw&#8217;s decision to take his team off the field and defended D\u00edaz for missing the penalty.\n\nRegragui added: &#8220;The match we had was shameful for Africa.&#8221;\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/a1.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2026%2F0118%2Fr1602408_1296x729_16%2D9.jpg\" alt=\"Senegal y Marruecos discuten durante la final de la CAN en Rabat.\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n\nMorocco&#8217;s coach added that Pape [Thiaw] did something that does not honor Africa. He is now African champion, so he can say what he wants, but they stopped the match for more than 10 minutes.&#8221;\n\nThe decision of referee Jean-Jacques Ndala to review the VAR for a foul on D\u00edaz triggered a fight between both teams, which extended to the stands. Senegal fans tried to invade the field to confront the officials and the Moroccan delegation.\n\nSecurity guards and riot police intervened to create a barrier between the fans and the field.
