Santo Domingo \u2013 The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) has made a transcendental decision. The cancellation of the match played on Friday, January 16th between the \u00c1guilas Cibae\u00f1as and the Toros del Este has been announced.<\/p>\n
The game, held at the Francisco A. Micheli stadium in La Romana, was the subject of a protest filed by the Toros del Este, which was upheld by the league.<\/p>\n
The Toros’ protest was based on the registration of nine imported players by the \u00c1guilas Cibae\u00f1as. This contravenes the league’s regulations, which establish a limit of eight foreign players on the roster for each game.<\/p>\n
The situation required the direct intervention of the president of LIDOM, Vitelio Mej\u00eda, who evaluated the arguments of both parties.<\/p>\n
Although LIDOM validated the protest in terms of form, it rejected the confiscation of the game in favor of the Toros. Instead, the official cancellation of the match was determined due to the regulatory violation.<\/p>\n
The game had ended with a 6-2 victory for the \u00c1guilas Cibae\u00f1as. The \u00c1guilas’ roster included as imports Odrisamer Despaigne, Guadalupe Ch\u00e1vez, Matt Foster, Yoan L\u00f3pez, A.J. Puckett, Elih Marrero, Sebasti\u00e1n Rivero, Rodolfo Amador and Juan Carlos Bengoa, although only six of them actively participated in the game.<\/p>\n
The league informed that the game will be rescheduled only if necessary, depending on the result of the match between the \u00c1guilas Cibae\u00f1as and the Leones del Escogido, scheduled for Sunday, January 18 at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.<\/p>\n
In the event that the \u00c1guilas prevail over the Escogido, both teams \u2014\u00c1guilas and Toros\u2014 would be tied with a record of 11-7, which would require the repetition of the canceled game in La Romana.<\/p>\n
