The American team expects an outstanding performance from Matthews to succeed in the tournament.\n\nMatthews will be the captain, but the Tkachuks are the heart of the team. Matthew Tkachuk is recovering from surgery, while Brady has been performing great with Ottawa.\n\nIn the 4 Nations Tournament, the United States featured scorers like Boldy, Connor, and Guentzel. Thompson adds another threat, and Larkin has shown his best hockey. Miller and Trocheck bring 200-foot play and tenacity.\n\nA name to follow: Jack Hughes. Still affected by a hand injury, Hughes was used on the wing in the 4 Nations tournament. How will he fit in here?\n\n\n

      • Jeremy Swayman, Boston Bruins<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\nThe same trio that represented the United States in the 4 Nations will be at the 2026 Olympic Games.\n\nHellebuyck had a save percentage of .932 and a goals-against average of 1.59 in the 4 Nations. Oettinger has 8.2 goals saved above expected this season. Swayman was key in the 2025 IIHF World Championship.\n\nOverall goalkeeper rating: A\n\n\n

        Surprises<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        Seth Jones<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Was there a trade in the NHL that rehabilitated a player’s reputation more than Seth Jones’ to the Florida Panthers last season?<\/p>\n\n\nJones, who previously received votes for the Norris Trophy, was traded to Chicago in 2021 and saw his esteem fall. In Florida, he formed an effective defense and helped the team win the Stanley Cup.\n\n\n

        Clayton Keller<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\nIt was expected that the United States would repeat with the same 4 Nations roster, but with some additions. Tage Thompson and Keller were included. Keller captained the American team that won gold at the IIHF World Championship.\n\nTeam USA management considered participation in the World Cup as an important factor in the Olympic selection.\n\n\n

        Notable Absences<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        Cole Caufield<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\nCaufield, with 57 goals in his last 122 NHL games, is an electrifying player. However, he was not selected, in part due to his defensive performance.\n\n\n

        Alex DeBrincat<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\nDeBrincat, with 87 goals in 206 games in the last three seasons, was not selected due to his size and defensive skills.\n\n\n

        Adam Fox<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\nFox, a Norris Trophy winner, was not included after a less-than-stellar tournament in the 4 Nations. His defensive error on McDavid’s golden goal was criticized.\n\n\n

        Lane Hutson<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\nHutson, a dynamic offensive defenseman, was not selected. He did not participate in the World Cup.\n\n\n

        Patrick Kane<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\nKane, 37, was not selected despite his Olympic experience and good performance in the NHL.\n\n\n

The time is now for the United States to showcase its talent with a team full of stars.\n\nHowever, five of the top ten American scorers in the NHL are not on this team.\n\nThis seems like a team built to mitigate risks, rather than take them.\n\nThis team has what it takes to beat Canada and win the Olympic gold. The defense and the goalkeeper could be enough to reach the final.\n\n\n
