Ardie Savea, All Blacks star and captain of Moana Pasifika, along with the New Zealand Rugby Federation (NZR), have issued warnings about the risks associated with this practice.\n\nNZR issued a statement on Thursday, expressing its condolences and warning about the dangers of participating in this type of game, which have gained popularity through leagues like RUNIT and Run it Straight.\n\n\n

“We urge people not to participate in ‘Run It Straight’ games or competitions, as they carry a significant risk of serious injury,” NZR stated.<\/p>\n\nNZR<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe statement also recommended that those interested in contact sports enroll in school teams or clubs, where they can learn to tackle and evade safely.\n\nThe game, which consists of a one-on-one confrontation on a 20-meter field, involves one player running with the ball while another defends. The objective is to make a forceful tackle or, for the ball carrier, to avoid being tackled.\n\nIn recent months, competitions have been held in Australia and New Zealand, generating criticism for the risk of concussions and brain-related injuries. The tragic death of Satterthwaite, who was participating in a game at a birthday party, has highlighted the urgency of addressing this issue.\n\nDuring the Moana Pasifika training, Savea, recognized as the Super Rugby Player of the Year, was consulted on the matter. The player expressed his condolences to Satterthwaite’s family and emphasized the importance of safety.\n\n\n
