Napheesa Collier Cancels Meeting with WNBA Commissioner

Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier has decided to cancel her meeting with WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert, scheduled for next week, according to sources close to the situation. The announcement comes after a series of cross-statements that have strained the relationship between the two. Collier had previously expressed his willingness to meet with Engelbert to discuss the criticisms that arose after a press conference on Tuesday. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when Engelbert denied Collier’s statements about a private conversation between the two, calling them “inaccurate”.

This has practically damaged the relationship irreparably.

A league spokesperson reported that Collier had not yet notified Engelbert about the cancellation of the meeting. Engelbert, for her part, categorically denied having said that Caitlin Clark and other prominent players “should be on their knees” grateful for the platform the league has provided them, as Collier had claimed.

I did not make those comments.

Engelbert acknowledged the need to rebuild trust with the players, although he was optimistic about the possibility of achieving this. The incident has generated widespread support for Collier from the league’s players, including Caitlin Clark, who called Collier’s points “valid”.
