DiJonai Carrington Out for the Season Due to Injury

Minnesota Lynx guard DiJonai Carrington will miss the rest of the postseason due to an injury. The team announced this Saturday after undergoing medical tests.

The exams revealed a “significant mid-foot sprain.” The injury occurred in Game 2 of the first-round series against the Golden State Valkyries.

Carrington had already been ruled out for Game 1 of the WNBA semifinals against the Phoenix Mercury, which will be played on Sunday.

The player was seen wearing an orthopedic boot and walking with crutches on Friday, during the press conference of her teammate Alanna Smith, who received the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Without Carrington, Minnesota’s bench loses a key piece on both sides of the court. In the two games of the first-round series against the Valkyries, Carrington provided offensive dynamism, scoring six points in Game 1 and 11 in Game 2, in addition to defending Golden State’s best guard.

In the 11 regular season games she played with the Lynx, Carrington averaged 8.6 points, with 48.5% field goal efficiency and 45.5% from the three-point line, both career highs. It should be noted that she missed the last four regular season games due to a shoulder injury.
