DiJonai Carrington to miss first game of WNBA semifinals
Minnesota Lynx guard DiJonai Carrington will be absent for the first game of the WNBA semifinals against the Phoenix Mercury due to a left foot injury, the team announced on Saturday.
Carrington apparently suffered the injury at the end of the second game of the first-round series against the Golden State Valkyries.
Carrington was seen wearing an orthopedic boot and walking with crutches on Friday, during the press conference of her teammate Alanna Smith, who received the Defensive Player of the Year award.
The absence of Carrington represents a significant loss for the Minnesota Lynx, especially due to her versatility on both sides of the court. In the two games of the first-round series against the Valkyries, Carrington provided a significant offensive spark to the team, scoring six points in the first game and 11 in the second, in addition to defending Golden State’s best guard on the court.
In the 11 regular season games she played with the Lynx, Carrington averaged 8.6 points, with a 48.5% field goal percentage and a 45.5% from the three-point line, both career highs. It should be remembered that she missed the last four games of the regular season due to a shoulder injury.
