Minnesota Lynx Advance to Commissioner’s Cup Final

The Minnesota Lynx secure their place in the Commissioner’s Cup final after defeating the Las Vegas Aces with a score of 76-62. This victory gives them the opportunity to defend their title in the WNBA competition. However, the victory is marred by concern surrounding Napheesa Collier, Lynx star, who had to leave the game due to a back injury. Collier, WNBA scoring leader and early MVP candidate, left the game in the third quarter and did not return. The Lynx, who will represent the West for the second consecutive year, achieved a 5-1 record in the Cup phase. They will face the Indiana Fever in the final on July 1. The Fever advanced after defeating the Connecticut Sun.

Once Phee left, I thought: ‘Everything that feels good has to go up.’ It’s not difficult for me. We have to win. So, whatever it is, that’s what I’m going to do. I don’t think I take bad shots, so if I’m open, I’m going to shoot.

Courtney Williams
Despite trailing 39-32 when Collier retired, the Lynx reacted, led by Courtney Williams, who scored 20 points. Natisha Hiedeman and Diamond Miller contributed 12 points each off the bench. Minnesota will host the final this year, as they have a higher win percentage in the regular season compared to the Fever. The Lynx will have four regular season games before the Cup final, while the Fever will have five. The teams will not face each other in the regular season until August. The Commissioner’s Cup, which began in 2021, has been won by Seattle, Las Vegas, New York, and Minnesota. This year, the Cup schedule took place from June 1 to 17.
