Jewell Loyd Joins Project B: A New Chapter in Women’s Basketball

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Jewell Loyd has announced her joining Project B, the innovative women’s basketball league scheduled to launch in Europe and Asia in November 2026. This news marks a significant milestone in the evolution of women’s basketball, attracting prominent figures and promising a global impact. Loyd announced her decision on Tuesday through her social media, one day after former WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones confirmed her participation in the new league. Project B distinguishes itself by offering players significantly high salaries and equity participation, an appeal that is changing the landscape of women’s professional basketball. Loyd, who contributed to the Las Vegas Aces’ triumph in their third championship in four seasons, now joins the initiative. “Every step forward in this game is an investment in what’s possible. I believe in the future of women’s basketball, and the global momentum is real,” Loyd stated. “I am excited to help shape what’s coming for the next generation.”

“Jonquel and Jewell represent the core principles of Project B: elite talent, global impact, and leadership beyond the court,” said Alana Beard, Project B’s basketball director.

Jones, for his part, expressed his enthusiasm for “being able to continue playing against the best players in the world, playing with the best players in the world and being able to see new parts of the world”. This league will have 66 players distributed across six teams, and each will receive a salary higher than that currently offered in the WNBA, and even those of Unrivaled. Project B plans to play its inaugural season until April 2027, which will not interfere with the usual WNBA schedule.
