Caitlin Clark, out due to injury in the Indiana Fever
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has been officially ruled out for Tuesday’s game against the New York Liberty due to a right groin injury.
Clark will miss her eleventh regular season game (12 in total, including the Commissioner’s Cup final) due to injury, after not having been absent during her college career and her rookie season in the WNBA. The two-time All-Star and 2024 first draft pick had already been out twice this summer due to injuries to her left quadriceps and left groin. Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds this season.
On the other hand, Jonquel Jones, MVP of the 2024 Finals, is off the injury report and is ready to return to action for the first time since June 19, after recovering from an ankle injury.
Jones has participated in nine games this season due to a right ankle sprain in early June, which worsened a few weeks later. The current champion, Liberty, has struggled in her absence, with a 7-5 record in games without the five-time All-Star and league MVP in 2021, leading to a drop in the standings after a 9-0 start.
The 6-foot-6 power forward is averaging 12.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists this season, with a 43.8% success rate on 3-point shots.
The Fever and the Liberty will face off on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET in their second meeting in a week, both without Clark. The teams met last Wednesday, also in Brooklyn, where New York won 98-77.
