Citron and Iriafen, Mystics rookies, to the WNBA All-Star alongside Bueckers

WNBA Stars Ready for All-Star Game

Players Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen of the Washington Mystics were selected as reserves for the WNBA All-Star Game, which will be held on July 19 in Indianapolis. The selection was made by the league’s coaches. Citron and Iriafen, chosen in positions number 3 and 4 of the draft, will join Paige Bueckers of the Dallas Wings, as rookies in the All-Star. Bueckers was selected as a starter after the vote of fans, players and media. Among the players debuting in the All-Star game are Kayla Thornton of the Golden State Valkyries and Gabby Williams of the Seattle Storm, both with a long career in the league. Skylar Diggins of the Storm and Alyssa Thomas of the Phoenix Mercury, bring experience to the game. Kelsey Plum of the Los Angeles Sparks and Jackie Young of the Las Vegas Aces also repeat. The reserve list is completed by Rhyne Howard of the Atlanta Dream, Kelsey Mitchell of the Indiana Fever, Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky, and Courtney Williams of the Minnesota Lynx. The All-Star captains are Caitlin Clark of Indiana and Napheesa Collier of Minnesota. They will select their teams, first choosing from the remaining eight players in the starting group and then from the 12 reserves. Alongside Clark, Collier, and Bueckers, the starters are Aliyah Boston of Indiana, Allisha Gray of Atlanta, Sabrina Ionescu of New York, Nneka Ogwumike of Seattle, Satou Sabally of Phoenix, Breanna Stewart of New York, and A’ja Wilson of Las Vegas. The team draft will be broadcast during ESPN’s “WNBA Countdown” on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET). Any player who cannot participate in the All-Star game will be replaced by a player chosen by WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
