Caitlin Clark Could Return Before the End of the Regular Season

The Indiana Fever are hoping for the return of their star, Caitlin Clark, before the end of the regular season, according to coach Stephanie White. When asked if he anticipates Clark’s return before the end of the regular season, White replied: “That’s the hope. The hope is that he returns.” Clark has been absent for the last month due to a right groin injury sustained in the last minute of the July 15th game against the Sun team. The number 1 draft pick of 2024 and member of the first All-WNBA team, had already been out of action this summer due to a left quadriceps and left groin injury, appearing in only 13 games in her second year season. In the limited time he has played, Clark averages 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game. The Fever team has not set a date for her return, and White has reiterated that the organization does not want to rush Clark, even after losing guards Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson to season-ending injuries last week.

This year’s experience, trying to come back and come back quickly, has also taught him that he needs to make sure he’s 100 percent. Yes, every competitor wants to play, but at the same time doing it the right way and making sure, after having had some setbacks, that we are prioritizing his long-term health and well-being is the most important thing.

Clark has typically traveled with the team on road trips, but he did not travel to Connecticut for undisclosed reasons. The Fever team added guards Odyssey Sims and Kyra Lambert after McDonald and Colson were injured, but Indiana has lost its last two games, both at home against teams in the bottom four of the standings. Indiana (18-16) currently holds the seventh spot with 10 games remaining in the regular season, close to losing a playoff spot, which begins on September 14.

We have great leadership in that locker room. This group is united. They are connected. They stick together.

Against the Sun team, Sims will replace Lexie Hull in the starting lineup, White said. The coach hopes that, after adapting to the absence of McDonald and Colson and integrating Sims and Lambert, her team can find a new rhythm.

Every time an adjustment has to be made, particularly with the loss of a player, and now with two falling, it takes a little time. If they are your main ball handlers, I think it takes a little time and practice. So I think there’s another gear we can reach.
