INDIANAPOLIS – Caitlin Clark has tried to enjoy the WNBA All-Star weekend to the fullest, despite the disappointment of not being able to play. The Indiana Fever guard, who was the most voted for by the fans, suffered a right groin injury in Tuesday’s victory over Connecticut, which prevented her from competing in Friday’s 3-point shooting contest and Saturday’s All-Star Game. Before the game, Clark met with the media alongside fellow All-Star captain Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx. Both joked about which team would win and answered questions about the ongoing collective bargaining agreement negotiations. Clark also talked about how he has felt during a holiday weekend organized by his franchise.

When the injury happened, it was pretty frustrating considering what was waiting for me in the next few days. But this weekend wasn’t going to be taken away from me. Sure, maybe I can’t play, but I can still be here and participate, and I have a lot of friends and family in town who are having a great time. So I’ve been trying to enjoy it as best I can.

“Being close and being a part of everything is really important to me and to the fans. They have been in great shape, whether they come to the game tonight or just enjoy all the festivities in our city. So I am very happy, not only for Indianapolis and the state of Indiana and our organization, but really for the league. I think the weekend has been absolutely incredible,” he added. As a rookie, Clark had 4 points, 10 assists, and 2 steals in last year’s All-Star Game in Phoenix. She played for Team WNBA, which defeated Team USA 117-109 in a contest that helped prepare the U.S. team for the Olympics. Clark led the league in assists and three-pointers, while the Fever made the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Clark never missed a game in her college career at Iowa or in her first season in the WNBA. But this year, she has been absent for 10 regular season games, in addition to the Commissioner’s Cup final, due to injuries to her left quadriceps, left groin, and right groin.

I feel like there have been quite a few injuries at the start of the season for a lot of people. So a lot of people are in the same situation as me.

Caitlin Clark«I’m not going to say that I’ve been receiving treatment 24 hours a day. I’ve still been trying to enjoy this weekend, and have the balance of that while absorbing all of this. And, you know, once Sunday comes, I’ll completely change my focus to be as healthy as possible», he concluded. The Fever, with a 12-11 record and champions of the Commissioner’s Cup, have three games next week: Tuesday in New York, Thursday at home against Las Vegas, and Sunday in Chicago.
