In a historic night for the Las Vegas Aces, A’ja Wilson, the current WNBA MVP, left an indelible mark by becoming the first player in league history to achieve a 30-20 double-double.

It’s just A’ja being A’ja.

Becky Hammon, Las Vegas Aces coach
Coach Becky Hammon, visibly impressed, couldn’t help but express her amazement at Wilson’s feat. “She probably could have achieved something like that before,” added Hammon, highlighting that this year there has been more emphasis on Wilson’s participation in the offense.Wilson finished the game with 32 points, on 13-of-25 shooting from the field, and 20 rebounds, marking his second career game with 20 or more rebounds. This stellar performance led the Aces to a 94-86 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday night. This was her 14th double-double of the season and the sixth of her career with at least 30 points and 15 rebounds, tying Tina Charles for the most in WNBA history, according to compiled data.

It’s something huge. I didn’t know, with so many great players in this league, that this was happening for the first time. It’s a blessing. I love what I do. I love it a lot, so whenever I can go out and play basketball the way I like, and the team and everyone is involved, I’m happy with that.

Jackie Young, Wilson’s teammate, highlighted Wilson’s ability to constantly surprise. “A’ja shows up every night, and I think that’s why she’s so great at what she does. She’s a tireless worker, so it’s rewarding to see her hard work pay off. Despite the double and triple defenses she receives, she continues to produce incredible numbers every night,” Young commented.Wilson, who this season became the fastest and second youngest player to reach 5,000 career points, leads the league in 30-point games since entering in 2018.

It’s great to have my name in the record books. I’m sure there will be many more. So yes, it’s great to be the first.
