A’ja Wilson, questionable for Aces game after wrist injury

A’ja Wilson, star of the Las Vegas Aces, is questionable for Thursday’s game against the Washington Mystics, due to a right wrist injury suffered on Tuesday. Wilson underwent an MRI on Wednesday morning.

“Wow! Nothing wakes you up like the sound of an MRI machine, hahaha!” Wilson posted on social media. “But I just want to thank everyone for their prayers. NYL, thank you so much for the quick help and privacy. I really appreciate it. To my surprise, thank you for preventing my fall, hahaha! God has a plan that I will never question. We will be fine!

The injury occurred six minutes into the second quarter in the 87-78 loss to the New York Liberty on Tuesday, when Wilson fell on her right arm and wrist after attempting a layup. She remained on the court for a few minutes with her team surrounding her, but was able to get up on her own. After the injury, Wilson stayed in the game for a few possessions before returning to the locker room. She was ruled out during halftime. Wilson, who averaged 21.9 points and nine rebounds per game before Tuesday, missed three games earlier this season while in concussion protocol. The Aces had a 2-1 record in that span. Aces coach Becky Hammon stated after Tuesday’s game: “When in doubt, we will prioritize A’ja’s safety. Our season is more important than this game, so we want to make sure she doesn’t risk getting injured or damaging anything.” Hammon continued: “[Wilson] changes the whole dynamic on both sides of the court for us. You’re never going to replace that. You can’t replace that, for sure not with one person, two, maybe even three or even four. It’s about us fighting and sticking together and figuring it out.”
