Wimbledon: Tennis player pays tribute to Diogo Jota after tragic death
Portuguese tennis player Francisco Cabral paid tribute to his compatriot Diogo Jota at Wimbledon, wearing a black ribbon on his shirt. Jota and his brother André Silva died in a car accident on Thursday morning near Zamora, Spain. The All England Club allowed players to relax their strict white dress code as a mark of respect following Jota’s death. Cabral and his partner Lucas Miedler were eliminated from the doubles competition on Friday, losing 3-6, 6-7 (9-11) against Petr Nouza and Patrik Rikl.

Very, very sad news, not only in the world of sports but in Portugal in general.

Cabral highlighted Jota’s impact, describing him as an idol and icon, as well as a great person who served as an inspiration to him. Tributes have been paid in the world of sports to the Liverpool striker, including emotional messages on social media.
