Wawrinka and Gasquet Receive Wild Cards for the French Open
PARIS – Stan Wawrinka, a three-time Grand Slam champion, and veteran Frenchman Richard Gasquet are among the eight men who received wild cards for the French Open.Wawrinka, who turned 40 in March, won the Australian Open in 2014, his first Grand Slam singles title, and added major victories at the French Open in 2015 and the US Open in 2016.
The Swiss tennis player has dealt with injuries in recent years and has dropped to number 132 in the ATP ranking.
Gasquet will play his last tournament in Paris. The 38-year-old Frenchman, who reached a career-high ranking of number 7 in 2007, was considered at one point as a potential Grand Slam winner, but he was never able to get past the semifinals in any major tournament. Gasquet reached the Wimbledon semifinals twice and was also a semifinalist at the US Open. He won 16 tour titles and was a member of the French team that won the Davis Cup in 2017.
