Valentin Vacherot Shocks at the Shanghai Masters
In a performance that will be etched in the memory of tennis fans, Valentin Vacherot won the Shanghai Masters title, defeating his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in a final full of emotions.
Vacherot, coming from the qualifying rounds, achieved a historic victory with scores of 4-6, 6-3 and 6-3, marking the first title of his professional career.
This triumph makes him the champion with the lowest ranking in the history of the ATP Masters 1000, an achievement that positions him as a player to watch on the circuit.
The tennis player, currently ranked 204th in the world, proved his worth by defeating Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, opening the way for the final against Rinderknech.
In the decisive set, Vacherot displayed impeccable serving, stringing together three consecutive blank games and accumulating 15 points in a row.
Despite Rinderknech saving a match point, Vacherot sealed the victory with a powerful forehand, securing the title.
Vacherot’s celebration reflected the magnitude of the achievement, sharing the joy with his cousin and his team, led by his coach and half-brother, Benjamin Balleret.
It is worth noting that, in the past, Rinderknech had won his only previous encounter against Vacherot in a Futures tournament in 2018.
