Ben Shelton Climbs to Top 10 in ATP Ranking, Marking a Milestone for American Tennis
American tennis celebrates a historic moment with the recent update of the ATP ranking. Ben Shelton has climbed two positions, placing himself in the number 10 spot, an achievement that adds to the presence of Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul in the top 10.
This is the first time in almost two decades that the United States has three male tennis players in the top ten in the world.
In April 2006, Andy Roddick, James Blake, and Andre Agassi represented the United States in the 4th, 7th, and 10th positions respectively.
Regarding women’s tennis, the United States continues to excel with four players in the WTA top 10 and five in the top 13.
- Coco Gauff (2)
- Jessica Pegula (3)
- Madison Keys (6)
- Emma Navarro (9)
- Amanda Anisimova (13)
Aryna Sabalenka remains at the top of the women’s ranking, a position she obtained in October. Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, drops to number 8.
Tatjana Maria, the 37-year-old German tennis player, has experienced a notable rise of 43 positions, reaching the 43rd position, after her victory at the Queen’s Club tournament.
Shelton, 22, who won the NCAA singles title in 2022 representing the University of Florida, is in his third full season on the professional circuit. It is worth noting that he had not traveled outside the United States until 2023.
Shelton has reached the semi-finals of two Grand Slams, at the US Open 2023 and the Australian Open this January.
Taylor Fritz, after winning a title in Stuttgart, Germany, has moved up three positions, equaling his best historical ranking.
The top three positions in the men’s ranking remain unchanged: Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev.
