Iga Swiatek Conquers Wimbledon with Force

Iga Swiatek demonstrated her dominance in tennis by obtaining her first Wimbledon title and sixth Grand Slam championship, after an impressive victory over American Amanda Anisimova in the women’s final.

Swiatek needed only 57 minutes to defeat Anisimova with a score of 6-0, 6-0. This historic result marked the third “double bagel” in a women’s final of a Grand Slam tournament in history, and the first since 1988.

The 24-year-old Polish player extended her record to 6-0 in Grand Slam finals, adding the Wimbledon title to her four French Open trophies and one US Open. With this victory, she becomes the eighth player in history, and the only active one, to win a Grand Slam title on all three surfaces (hard court, clay, and grass).

Swiatek managed to break her opponent’s serve in the first game and added two more breaks to secure the first set in 25 minutes. She finished the match with a 55-24 lead in total points, despite only managing 10 winners. Anisimova, for her part, had an unstable performance, committing 28 unforced errors.

Although Swiatek was a junior champion at Wimbledon in 2018, it took her time to adapt to grass. Her career on this surface began with a 6-5 record, but since 2023 she has won 19 of 22 matches on grass. Wimbledon represents her first WTA title on this surface.

Swiatek, who spent most of 2022, 2023, and 2024 in the number 1 position in the WTA ranking, was seeded as number 8 at the All England Club after more than a year without winning a title.

The victory was also Swiatek’s 100th in a Grand Slam tournament, achieved in her 120th match. She is the woman who has reached 100 victories in Grand Slam tournaments the fastest since Serena Williams.

The title match on center court was the first for Anisimova, 23, in any Grand Slam tournament. She was a semifinalist at 17 at the 2019 French Open and took a break from the tour due to mental health issues just over two years ago.

Anisimova will enter the top 10 of the ranking for the first time next week.
