Iga Swiatek Advances to Semifinals in Bad Homburg After Defeating Alexandrova

Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek, seeded number four, demonstrated her strength at the Bad Homburg Open by defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia with a score of 6-4, 7-6(5). This victory secures her a place in the semifinals of the tournament, a warm-up for Wimbledon. Swiatek, who is participating in her only grass court tournament before Wimbledon, had to deal with a challenging game and committed 37 unforced errors. Despite this, she managed to stay calm and secure the victory against Alexandrova.

I think today it was about adapting to the conditions, because there was a lot of wind. On the one hand, being intense and, on the other, being safe.

The match was interrupted by rain in the middle of the second set. During the break, Swiatek remained focused by solving crossword puzzles, which apparently helped her maintain her focus and secure the tiebreak. In the semifinals, Swiatek will face Jasmine Paolini, the second seed. Swiatek leads Paolini in their head-to-head matchups with a score of 4-0. Paolini, a Wimbledon finalist last year, secured her fourth consecutive victory over Beatriz Haddad Maia, with a score of 7-5, 7-5. This victory also marked the first time Paolini has defeated the Brazilian in straight sets, securing her fourth semifinal of the season. Jessica Pegula, the top seed, also advanced to the semifinals after a three-set match against Emma Navarro, with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Pegula will face 20-year-old Linda Noskova, who defeated Mirra Andreeva with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
