Elina Svitolina Closes the 2025 Tennis Season for Personal Reasons
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina, who reached number 3 in the world, has announced that she will end her tennis season early. The decision is based on the need to take time to take care of her emotional well-being.
Through a social media post, Svitolina explained her situation. “Lately I haven’t felt like myself. I don’t feel ready to play, so I’m ending my season here,” she commented.

Currently ranked 13th, Svitolina feels the need to rest and recharge. “When I return to the court, I want to fight with everything I have and give my best for the fans, for the game and for myself,” she added.
The 2025 season for Svitolina was marked by a solid performance, with a 35-14 record and a title at the WTA 250 clay tournament in Rouen, France, in April. In addition, she reached the quarterfinals at the Australian and French Opens.
However, after reaching the quarterfinals in Montreal, Svitolina suffered defeats in her first match in Cincinnati and in the first round of the US Open.
After her defeat in Montreal, Svitolina reported having received online abuse from frustrated gamblers.
Last week, Svitolina led Ukraine to the Billie Jean King Cup semi-finals in China, before losing to Jasmine Paolini of Italy.
Svitolina, 31, married French tennis player Gael Monfils in 2021 and they have a daughter, Skai, born in 2022.
Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia also announced that she will end her 2025 season to focus on her health and rest.
“I am posting this to share that I am ending my 2025 season a little earlier than planned so that I can rest my body and mind for a longer period,” declared the Brazilian player. “…Rest assured that I will return stronger and the best is yet to come!”
