Spain Qualifies for the Davis Cup Final After Defeating Germany
BOLOGNA, Italy – Spain secured their spot in the Davis Cup final thanks to the outstanding performance of the doubles pair formed by Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez, who achieved a crucial victory over the German duo composed of Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz.
The match, which ended with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, sealed the Spanish victory 2-1 in the semi-final.
Alexander Zverev kept Germany’s hopes alive with a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5) victory over Jaume Munar. Previously, Pablo Carreño Busta had given Spain the first point by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff.
Carreño Busta saved five consecutive set points in the tiebreak, securing the victory with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (6).
Granollers and Martínez surprised Pütz and Krawietz, inflicting only their second defeat on them in the Davis Cup.
This victory propels the Spanish team, which did not have the presence of Carlos Alcaraz due to an injury, to the final for the first time in six years.
Spain will face Italy, the defending champion, who defeated Belgium on Friday.
