BOLOGNA, Italy – Spain secured their place in the Davis Cup final thanks to the outstanding performance of the doubles pair formed by Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez, who achieved a crucial victory against the German duo composed of Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz, with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 this Saturday, thus sealing the Spanish triumph by 2-1 in the semifinal.
Alexander Zverev kept the German team’s hopes alive with a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5) victory over Jaume Munar. Previously, Pablo Carreño Busta had put Spain ahead by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff in an exciting match. Carreño Busta saved five consecutive set points in the tiebreak, securing the victory with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (6).
The Granollers-Martínez duo surprised Pütz and Krawietz, inflicting their second defeat in the Davis Cup.
This triumph propels the Spanish team, which did not have the presence of Carlos Alcaraz, injured, to the final for the first time in six years.
In the final, Spain will face Italy, the defending champion on two occasions, who defeated Belgium on Friday.
